Hi Friends,

When I’m out on the trail, a lot of people ask me why I’m running for Congress. I want to take a moment to share why I am in this race.

Our state is overflowing with natural resources, but our most precious resource is our children. Their future is our future, so when our public schools were targeted for budget cuts a couple years ago, I worked to organize thousands of parents, teachers, educators, and neighbors to stand up for our schools. We managed to fight off millions of dollars in cuts and send a strong message to the legislature. And we did it again the next year. And the next.

But after year after year of fighting the same fight, it became clear — we were not going to see real change until our leaders better reflect our Alaskan values.

So, in 2018, I stepped up to run for Congress. Thousands of people like you, friend, stepped up with me. You gave money, made calls, knocked on doors, and much more. It meant so much to me. And it made a difference. Thanks to your efforts, we got closer than anyone in 30 years to bringing change to our Congressional representation.

But the same issues that pushed me to run are still holding us back. Our work is not done.

We must strengthen our economy so that there are well-paying jobs that can support our families. We need to bring the rising costs of healthcare under control. We must diversify our economy and start addressing the impacts of the climate crisis. We need to invest in our next generation through a cradle-to-career approach to education.

We’re at a crossroads, friends — I’m running because we need leaders who have a vision for Alaska’s future.

We have our challenges, but we also have so much potential in our unique and beautiful state. We need representatives who can tell our story in Washington and bring back the resources we need. We can do it, but first we must build a winning campaign.

Friend, I already know you’re in this fight. You’ve stepped up and chipped in to own a piece of this campaign -- because you believe in the same bright vision for Alaska that I do. And I’m so grateful to have your support.

But if we’re going to build a campaign that brings home a victory next November, I’m going to need your help every step of the way until we cross the finish line. We are now only days away from our final year deadline.
