Dear John,

This month, we’re sitting with the idea of resilience. In so many ways, this year could have broken us. Yet everywhere we look, we’re seeing lifelong activists and new leaders standing up to fight for justice, again and again.

Rest and joy are key components in building resilience. This month, we hosted our annual Comedy Night at Carolines on Broadway, back in person for the first time since 2020. In the words of President and CEO Teresa C. Younger, “we’ll laugh today so we can fight tomorrow.”

We may need to rest today so we can fight tomorrow. We may need to cry today so we can fight tomorrow. Resilience is a practice, and we’re proud to be practicing it in community with you all.

In solidarity,

Ruth McFarlane
Chief Advancement Officer

Ms. in the News

A new Associated Press story discusses our Birth Justice Initiative, which aims to build power within the birth justice movement and address race-based health disparities, and shares insights from grantee partners and the importance of funding at the grassroots level.

“Because our mission is sensitive to building the power of women and girls of color, and we see the data that shows how women and girls of color are so impacted by birth injustice, it just makes sense. We show up for women and girls of color in this country,” said Birth Justice Program Officer Sona Smith.

Grantee Spotlight: Somos Familia

During the intersecting weeks of Hispanic Heritage Month and LGBTQ History Month, we were proud to lift up the important work that grantee partner Somos Familia is doing at the intersection of these communities.

"Our people are resilient. We have been through a lot and we’ve kept on going. These past few years have been filled with loss and fear, but I have also seen joy and solidarity every step of the way."

Learn About Our Fiscal Year 2022 Grantee Partners

We’re excited to share that in FY22 we provided more than $5.2M in direct grants to more than 150 organizations across the country - with the funding helping advance a wide variety of projects in order to strengthen reproductive justice, improve economic security, and support equity and justice for all.

“Our communities and our fundamental human rights are under attack, and there has never been a more crucial time for this work,” said Teresa C. Younger, President and CEO of the Ms. Foundation."

Honoring Indigenous People’s Day

We strive to honor and uplift the heritage and experiences of Indigenous people – and in particular Indigenous women and girls – as they fight against the lingering effects of colonization, white supremacy and erasure that their communities continue to face.

On October 10, we celebrated Indigenous People’s Day and lifted up the Building the Fire Fund, which aims to contribute to the next level of organizing and provide ongoing infrastructure to build and recognize reproductive justice in Indian Country. Read more here!
