Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, patients seeking care have been left to navigate a complicated and cruel minefield of restrictions and bans. We will not let that happen in DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia! We will continue to build on the belief that “when they go low, we go local” – thank you for continuing to join us in the fight for our communities. Here’s how you can get involved.

Maryland
Attention Marylanders: it’s time to vote! Early voting begins today and concludes November 3; Election Day is Tuesday, November 8. To expand on the significant victory for reproductive health last legislative session, Maryland needs steadfast leadership. Check out PPADMV PAC’s first-ever endorsements of candidates running for Maryland state office and County Executive and consider contributing to PPADMV PAC’s efforts.
Earlier this year, Maryland passed the Abortion Care Access Act, expanding access to abortion across the state of Maryland. Thank you for joining PPADMV in that fight, and we hope you join us again for Maryland’s 2023 legislative session. We’re gearing up for new fights to protect and expand access to reproductive healthcare for all Marylanders - stay tuned by signing up to volunteer with PPADMV and be sure to follow us on social media (@ppadmv) for updates on how to get engaged.

Join us this upcoming legislative session: Governor Youngkin has stated that he wishes to impose a 15-week ban on abortion in Virginia. We will not stand by and let this happen! Be sure to sign up to volunteer with PPADMV and follow us on social media as we prepare for a fight in the 2023 Virginia legislative session.
PPADMV’s Executive Director Betsy Harned was delighted to speak at the Arlington Democrat’s Breakfast Series regarding the state of abortion in Virginia and across the country.

Across the Country
Currently, 18 states have abortion bans in effect that are prohibiting all or some abortions, and we anticipate that number to hit 26. This comes at the same time that a national 15-week ban on abortion was proposed by United States Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

This year PPADMV has been working proactively with partners and other states to ensure that people can access abortion regardless of their zip code. For example, PPADMV recruited volunteers to phone bank for West Virginia, where a near-total abortion ban was proposed and unfortunately passed and is now in effect, and Kansas where we helped to successfully defeat a proposed constitutional amendment banning abortion.

Abortion currently remains protected in Maryland, DC, and Virginia, but we know that this can quickly change, and we know that we need strong protections so that our region can help serve residents of other states. Thank you for your continued steadfast support.
