While much of the world is understandably focused on Putin’s war on Ukraine, Ethiopia’s Tigray crisis is actually today’s largest conflict.
The conflict in Ukraine has been called an “era-defining crisis,” and its impact is being felt in nearly every corner of the globe. However, the conflict in Ethiopia is an active humanitarian catastrophe that is receiving little attention from the West.
Since Ethiopia's Tigray conflict began in November 2020, an estimated 350,000 to 500,000 combatants have taken up arms, and as many as 600,000 civilians have died in the violence, according to researchers from Belgium’s Ghent University. With the destruction of hospitals and emergency clinics, and rampant food insecurity fueling the staggering civilian death toll, this conflict has led to several compounding humanitarian crises.

An Iranian protest song composed of tweets and online posts in the wake of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini’s death in captivity garnered more than 40 million views before it was forcibly taken down.
As the Iranian regime seeks to silence the protests [[link removed]] that have erupted over the past four weeks [[link removed]] following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, popular anger about her death has spread like wildfire and now has voice in a song.

On the current trajectory, global plastic waste will triple by 2060.
Despite bipartisan—and international—awareness of the increasing dangers that plastic waste [[link removed]] poses for both marine and land ecosystems, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) predicts that this waste will triple by 2060 unless significant new mitigation efforts are undertaken.

The number of migrants illegally entering the United States from Mexico and the Northern Triangle in August was down 50% from a year ago. The number of those coming from Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela was up 175%.
Customs and Border Protection “encounters” along the southern border have already surpassed 2 million for 2022. But a closer look at CBP data not only suggests that such migration is on the rise, but that the make up of those trying to the United States is changing sharply.
