MEDIA ADVISORY: Gov. Justice to hold Grand Opening Ceremony for new Nitro/St.Albans Bridge tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
|
|
WHO: Gov. Jim Justice, West Virginia Secretary of Transportation Jimmy Wriston, P.E., other officials.
WHAT: Gov. Justice will join officials to officially open the new Nitro/St. Albans Bridge on Interstate 64 over the Kanawha River. The span, officially named the Nitro WW I Memorial Bridge, is part of a $224 million widening project from Nitro to the US 35 interchange and is paid for through Gov. Justice’s Roads to Prosperity program. Those in attendance will be invited to be among the first to cross the new bridge.
Gov. Justice held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for this project in April 2021.
On Friday, St. Albans exit traffic will move onto the new bridge. Westbound traffic will move onto the new bridge beginning Saturday. Within two weeks eastbound traffic will be switched onto the new bridge to allow the Donald M. Legg Memorial Bridge to be demolished.
Once demolished, a new Donald M. Legg Memorial Bridge will be built on the site of the old span, using a portion of the existing bridge piers as a base.
WHEN: Tomorrow, Friday, October 28, 2022, at 2:30 p.m.
WHERE: To access the event site, take the Nitro exit to McJunkin Road directly adjacent to Walker Chevrolet.
