December 30, 2019

Dear John:

I write to you in the final hours of the year 2019, which is also the closing hours of this decade.

You should know that thanks to you C-Fam has had the most successful year in our history in terms of accomplishments and policy.

During the Clinton and Obama administrations, 16 years total, we held the line and insured that the radical pro-abortion advocates did not make any significant advances at the United Nations level. Abortion has never become a globally recognized human right. We played a significant role in that accomplishment.

In recent years some major pro-life groups have attempted to accept the phrase reproductive health as an acceptable term in UN documents. It is unfortunate that their arguments were accepted by some UN delegations who should have known better. After years of strained relations and intense debate, we have won the argument!

Our greatest accomplishment in recent months has been to make reproductive health controversial again. The United States delegation to the United Nations has determined that they will fight the insertion of reproductive health whenever and wherever it appears. This has had the effect of putting our opponents in a defensive crouch.

Even we did not think such a thing was entirely possible, but thanks to the hard work of C-Fam personnel this is now a reality.

There have been many significant victories these past 12 months, but ensuring that abortion is never made an internationally recognized human right is the most important because it is why we were founded in the summer of 1997.

I come to you to ask your support in the next few hours so that we will meet our significant budget shortfall for the year 2019. Pro-life nonprofit organizations receive their support from regular donors like you. You are our lifeline. We do not receive big checks from rich donors or big foundations or the government or the church. We live on the widow’s mite. Period.

The good news about our funding model is that it gives us freedom to take strong stands on the life issues and also on the increasingly aggressive LGBT elites. On that score we have also blocked their attempts to make sexual orientation and gender identity new categories of discrimination against Christians.

We must meet our budget shortfall by midnight tomorrow night, December 31st. We must meet the new year strong. We can never let up even for an instant and even if most people in this country and around the world have no idea of the danger that lurks in UN documents.

I ask you now to pray for us by name. And to give as much as you can to support our baby-and family-saving work. We are often alone at the UN but we are comforted to know that we have friends like you who pray for us and support our work.

If I have not hit this hard enough, let me hit it again. We need your help right now.

Yours in Christ,

Austin Ruse
President
