It’s important to stand up when I disagree with my own party. My job is to serve you – not my party’s leaders.

So today, I wanted to share an example of how I did just that. I was glad to work with lawmakers in both parties, in Kansas and Missouri, to help bring hundreds of good-paying jobs from the Department of Agriculture to our region.

This wasn’t a popular idea with most Democrats. It certainly wasn’t popular with my party’s leaders. But it was the right thing to do for Kansas.

So, we worked together to convince the Department of Agriculture to relocate two key agencies to the KC Metro. And because we put our differences aside and cooperated, we got the job done. Click here to learn more about it.

I worked with President Trump’s Secretary of Agriculture, and lawmakers in both parties, to bring these jobs to our region.

The Economic Research Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture both conduct groundbreaking research in the agriculture space. Their work and insights help support farmers and producers across the country.

Moving these agencies to our region made all the sense in the world. The Kansas City Metro is in the middle of the National Biosciences Corridor – from Manhattan, Kansas, to Columbia, Missouri.

So soon after learning the Secretary was considering relocating the agencies, I worked with lawmakers in both parties in Kansas and Missouri to bring them here. That included Senator Roberts, who I was honored to serve with and was the first member of Congress to chair both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees. He had long been an outspoken advocate for this move.

Kansas has a long, proud, and bipartisan tradition when it comes to supporting our agriculture economy. And because of this bipartisan tradition, we helped bring 700 good-paying jobs to our community.

I’ll always work with anyone, in either party, to make a difference for Kansas. My job is to serve you, regardless of party.

Whether we agree on every issue or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them – not just for special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.
