JOHN, This election is about so much: protecting basic civil rights like voting, reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy, the cost of living for American families, and safeguarding free and fair elections. There is so much at stake, it can seem overwhelming at times. It helps me to put it in personal terms. A recent story in the Springfield News-Leader profiled a woman put through an unthinkable ordeal after her pregnancy tragically became unviable, threatening her health and her life. Declining to provide a medically necessary and life-saving abortion, multiple hospitals cited the vaguely written abortion law that Missouri Republicans like Ann Wagner fought for, and that Senate candidate Eric Schmitt initiated without delay following the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision. While her unborn baby was dying inside of her, a baby that she and her partner wanted and prepared for, this woman was forced to seek life-saving care at her own expense, outside of Missouri. She even tried enlisting help from her state senator and Attorney General Schmitt, explaining over the phone (in excruciating detail) the private and intimate medical situation she was in to no avail. Her state senator ultimately referred her to a crisis “pregnancy center,” which do not perform abortions, and AG Schmitt never responded to her pleas for help or clarification on the law he proudly activated. So, when you hear that Democrats are trying to make this election about abortion, remember the suffering this woman endured because politicians recklessly imposed their moral views on her body. And remember that they will do it again and again and again, shaving away freedoms until we’re all affected. When you hear that "Democrats want to kill babies, both during pregnancy and after," imagine how you’d feel if you were a patient seeking care for a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy, yet being called a murderer. If stories like this disgust and enrage you, you are not alone. No matter what happens in November, we need to stand together and fight for a tolerant and free America that respects individual privacy. Join me and fight for a better country—our rights are on the line, and we won't go quietly. In Solidarity, P.S. Our field operation has been out knocking doors and organizing voters for over a year now.
