Every year the IRC welcomes families who have taken those risks to escape violence and political persecution and seek asylum in the United States.

Many of them have endured grueling journeys and must now wait years to find out if they'll be allowed to stay.

Seeking asylum is a legally protected right under U.S. and international law, but too often asylum seekers are criminalized, mistreated or used as political pawns.

The IRC does everything we can to stand up for the rights and dignity of asylum seekers. We provide legal advice, medical care, travel coordination and more to thousands of families who have recently crossed the U.S. border. Right now we want to share some encouragement from our supporters, too.
