Sign your name to this letter urging protections from dangerous PFAS chemicals.
Hi John,
As you know, we are fighting hard for in-state protections from PFAS. But the truth is, we need additional help from the federal government. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed designating two PFAS chemicals as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). This would unlock their authority to order cleanups and force PFAS polluters to pay for damage to our health and environment.
PFAS are a class of highly toxic, human made chemicals tied to a host of negative health outcomes including increased cholesterol levels, weakened responsiveness to certain vaccines, heightened risk of thyroid disease, decreased fertility, and lower infant birth weights.
Sign now, and we'll deliver the letter to the EPA.
PFAS are already presenting well-known public health risks in Wisconsin communities like Campbell, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Madison, Peshtigo, Marinette, Rhinelander, and Wausau. As we continue to test for these chemicals, we’ll likely find more and more impacted communities. For a list of known impacted communities, check out the DNR’s new PFAS Interactive Data Viewer.
Just this past summer, the EPA's own scientists determined that these chemicals are even more dangerous than previously thought. This EPA proposal would provide a new and important tool for holding polluters accountable when they jeopardize our health and environment.
Will you add your name to our letter supporting swift designation of these chemicals? Your action will help us demonstrate widespread support for stopping these dangerous chemicals from harming Wisconsin communities.
