It’s David again, here to finish off our 5 Days of NRA Fails with a fail that just won’t stop getting worse (for the NRA, that is).
Most of 2019: The New York Attorney General’s office is investigating the NRA for corruption and dishonest finances.
Back in November of 2018, we sent a letter to the New York Attorney General, asking her to launch a serious investigation into the NRA and their “non-profit” status. Since then, they’ve been trying to cover up lavish expenses, over-the-top salaries, and payouts to top NRA officials (worth millions of dollars). Their annual meeting turned into a public food fight. They have more lawsuits piling up around them. Their PR firm got sued by the state of New York. Plus all the other fails we’ve lined out for you the past five days.
Despite all of this, the NRA still has a stronghold on the majority of the Senate and the White House. NRA Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre literally called President Trump to get him to stop talking about gun violence prevention measures after a string of massacres this summer. Our movement is growing stronger each day thanks to supporters like you, but our opponents still have billions of dollars to spend on corrupt politicians and anti-gun safety lobbyists.
2019 has been a wild ride, but being able to roll into 2020 with hundreds of thousands of gun safety voters, big wins (like securing $25 million in gun violence research funding!), and financial support from supporters like you... it makes it all worth it. We’re winning. We can’t let up now.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks for all your support over the past year. Thanks for taking on the NRA with us. Thanks for believing in the power of our collective voices to make change.
In solidarity,
David Hogg
