I recently joined Oversight Committee Republicans in opening an investigation into United States Coast Guard (USCG) leadership’s unwillingness to allow religious exemptions for their COVID vaccine mandate. These mandates are not only harmful to service members’ careers but also create a self-inflicted wound to our military's recruitment rate.
Religious freedom is protected by the U.S. Constitution and federal law. Yet, information received by the oversight committee shows that USCG denied nearly every applicant seeking a religious exemption from the COVID vaccine mandate. The Coast Guard deserves our appreciation for their tireless work, yet service members are being punished with dismissal due to Biden’s unconscionable COVID vaccine mandate.
As war rages across the globe and natural disasters affect our country, it is imperative that we not weaken our own military by firing service members who refuse to receive a vaccine on religious grounds. In Congress, I introduced two bills, and have cosponsored several others to defend Americans from these unconstitutional mandates.
Our service members deserve better.
Furthermore, as more information comes out about the vaccine’s development, we are learning about the true nature of its ineffectiveness at preventing the spread of COVID. Unfortunately, the CDC has voted to add COVID-19 vaccines to their 2023 childhood and adult immunization schedules. This would require millions of schoolchildren to take the COVID-19 vaccine before attending school. I am opposed to any type of COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
