Girl Action Teams

IMPORTANT NOTE: Girl Action Teams that meet in community schools are only open to students enrolled in those schools. If your child does not attend the school she is registering for, she will not be accepted.

Finding Her Voice Orchard House School (FULL)
With guidance from the 'Finding Her Voice' curriculum, our girls will be taking the time to discover new and impactful ways to be the next generations' agents of change. Together we will tackle topics from intersectionality and body image, to stereotypes and identity, plus more. The girls will curate a project that represents their voices and identity.

How Fashion Reflects Social Change
The Thomas Jefferson HS Girl Action Team is back in FASHION this fall! Girls on this team will work together to execute a fashion show surrounding themes on the social change impacts of fashion. Girls Drop Beats, Too
Interested in music production and professional DJ-ing? Our Girls Drop Beats Too Girl Action Team supports girls in learning the basic fundamentals of DJ-ing techniques, mixing, and professionalism in the industry. Registration fees begin at $50 to rent a kit and $180 to purchase a kit.

Girls Who Code
Girls Who Code brings girls together at all levels of coding to create projects based-on self-identified social change ideas and computer science concepts. During this year's session, girls will learn introductory coding skills and experience the iterative design thinking process through blocky coding language and introductory 3D design skills using the Tinkerclad platform. If you, your daughter, or someone you know may be interested, sign up NOW!
This program is open to Middle School girls; They meet weekly on Thursdays starting October 27th and ending December 9th from 6:00pm -7:30pm

The Summer Immersion Lab cohort shares their experience.

Immersion Lab
This year we relaunched our Immersion Lab program with a focus on entrepreneurship through the Budding Black Girl Incubator. The curriculum included 8 weeks of immersive entrepreneurship training, working on product development and pitching. Our Summer cohort competed in a pitch competition hosted by Capital One where they had the opportunity to win seed money. Three participants won, earning $1,250 in seed money. This program is open for registration. They meet weekly on Thursdays starting November 3, 2022 and ending May 4, 2023 from 4:15 pm to 5:45 pm

Recipes for Success: Culinary, Culture, and Change
In this program, participants will learn essential principles and practical
step-by-step techniques for preparing customized meals and getting started in a career as a professional personal chef or just learn how to perfect
home-cooked meals. Through this collaboration with Open Space Education,
they will also learn to cultivate, harvest and create a better relationship with food and nature.
By providing Black girls with early access and training, participants will build professionalism, culinary skills, and acquire a passion for the industry, thus increasing representation in the field.

This program kicks off on Wednesday, October 26 and Wednesday, November 2
After the kickoff days, we will meet weekly on Mondays starting from November 7 and ending May 22 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm
This program meets at Girls For A Change from October through March 27 and then after Spring Break we will meet at Fonticello Food Forest (from April 17 through May 22).
