Our new, original data shows that rule of law has declined globally for the fifth year in a row. But there are bright spots, too, and declines are less widespread than at the height of the COVID-19 crisis.   

Still, pre-pandemic authoritarian trends continue to erode the rule of law, according to the World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index 2022.
