I won't lie; things are tough. This was one of the hardest years I've experienced at the Sierra Club. The Trump administration has gone after the Endangered Species Act protections that keep endangered animals from being lost forever. They've shrunk monuments and pushed for offshore drilling. They've shown unforgivable treatment of immigrants and refugees — locking up and separating families. And they continue to ignore the threat of Climate Change.
But we've seen deeply encouraging victories as well: The Interior Department was prevented from drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge again this year. We increased the number of dirty coal plants slated for retirement to 231. Congress was persuaded to pass the Natural Resources Management Act — protecting more than two million acres of public land. And when we asked you to support organizations trying to free and reunite separated families, you responded with tremendous generosity.
We're heading into 2020 strong — but we also face some of our biggest challenges: Blocking offshore drilling efforts and keeping dirty fuels in the ground. Saving the Endangered Species Act itself from extinction. Defending vulnerable communities from pollution. We need you.
