In the last year, we’ve helped return half a million dollars to 13th district residents.

Friend,

Every day that I’m in Congress, I’m fighting for the people of Michigan’s #13thDistrictStrong.

As the third poorest congressional district in the country, we need immediate and long-term solutions to systemic poverty.

That’s why, over the last 12 months, I’ve introduced 14 pieces of legislation and cosponsored 400 more bills to lift up low- and no-income families, including:

  • The Building Our Opportunities to Survive and Thrive (BOOST) Act, which The Washington Post called the “closest plan in Congress to universal basic income,”1 and Vox called, “one of the most fascinating bills of the 116th Congress: a $3,000-per-adult basic income.”2

  • The Prohibit Auto Insurance Discrimination (PAID) Act, to end modern-day redlining. Drivers in my district pay the highest car insurance rates in the nation, which locks them into cycles of poverty. This legislation bars the auto insurance industry from considering any non-driving factors in their rates, including your credit score, education level, marital status, gender, employment, home ownership, and zip code.

These bills were inspired by sitting down with residents in my district who have shared their struggles.

#RootedInCommunity

In just the last year, we’ve helped return half a million dollars to #13thDistrictStrong residents through our neighborhood service centers, including:

  • Helping a disabled widow who’d had her Social Security benefits approved in 2017, but as of earlier this year still had not received those benefits.

  • Helping a disabled veteran getting their student loan debt forgiven, allowing them to focus on their health, rather than paying off crippling debt.

We’ve held over 40 events in our district, from town hall meetings to housing center visits to “Coffee, Congress and Conversation” events, speaking with over 1,000 residents about the issues impacting our community.

We’ve responded to over 14,000 constituent letters to help solve problems.

We’ve met with hundreds of students at 17 schools throughout our district, to learn from and lift up young people.

We’ve covered over 1,200 miles in #13thDistrictStrong to address the needs of our residents.

Friend, you keep me rooted in community and focused on solutions for our district―which will also help millions of working families throughout the country.

Please make an end-of-year contribution to my re-election campaign today, so we can keep putting people first.

The people of #13thDistrictStrong deserve a government that works for and with the people. Staying #RootedInCommunity is how we get it done.

Always serving you,

Rashida
