John, we recently shared in our newsletter the impact our supporters have on people like Angela* who have been trafficked for sexual exploitation after crossing borders. We want to re-share her story today in hopes you will join us with your support.
Angela left her abusive marriage in Romania after being promised a new life in the U.K. by Robert, a man she met online. She was vulnerable to his false kindness, but as soon as they crossed the border, Angela realized that Robert wasn’t the man he seemed, and that her life would not be what he promised.
Angela was taken to a house and locked in an upstairs room — a room where she would be forced to engage in commercial sexual exploitation. Scared and betrayed, Angela decided to run away as soon as possible, leaping from the room's balcony and scrambling over the back fence surrounding the house.
Angela saved herself that day, but thanks to our supporters, IJM was able to be there for her as she returned safely back to Romania. We arranged remote therapy sessions that helped her process the traumatic events she experienced and reconnect with her family.
Now, at a time when the conflict in Ukraine makes the threat of cross-border trafficking a reality for more displaced people, we are grateful for partners like you who help protect, rescue and restore the lives of vulnerable children and adults. Today, we need your support more than ever.
