Hi John.

I’m pleased to share some great news with you today!

New federal funds to hire more local police officers and stop crime are coming to the Kansas Third District. I was glad to vote for the bipartisan budget law that made this funding possible.

This is a crucial step to help protect our families. It means more public safety resources for communities throughout the district. That includes law enforcement funding for KCK, Gardner, Leawood, and Overland Park. Please feel free to forward this message and the good news to anyone you know.

I know good ideas can come from Republicans and Democrats. And thankfully, public safety is an area where both parties can find common ground as we work alongside law enforcement.

I’m making it a priority to protect our communities in the House of Representatives.

That includes –

Voting for bipartisan laws to fund our local police, equipment and training for law enforcement, and mental health. My office has also proactively reached out to police departments across the Third District to connect them with these resources. For example, I was glad to help secure funding for the Overland Park Police Department so they can better respond to mental health calls.

• Holding a local law enforcement summit to address the risks of fentanyl. This was a crucial opportunity to listen to the needs of law enforcement and see how we can keep working together to keep our communities safe.

After hearing their concerns, I cosponsored the bipartisan Integrating New Technologies to Empower Law Enforcement at Our Borders Act. This bipartisan bill will help enhance security at our borders by researching and employing new technologies. I’m also urging leaders in both parties on the House Appropriations Committee to increase the availability and affordability of naloxone kits, an approved medication designed rapidly reverse the effects of opioid overdoses.

• Pushing to support the Olathe Police Department’s Mobile Command Unit. I’m pleased to share the House Appropriations Committee also approved a community project funding request I sponsored for the Olathe Police Department. It will help their police department upgrade technology in their existing Police Command Post, which can be used during critical incidents in the KC Metro area.

• Voting for several bipartisan laws to secure our border, hire more border patrol agents, and crack down on illegal drug smuggling. That includes legislation many of my Democratic colleagues opposed, but I decided to support because it was the right thing to do for Kansas.

I’m pushing to provide additional resources for our local police – including a new Mobile Command Unit for Olathe. Click here to learn more about it.

I know we can keep making progress by working together – Republicans, Democrats, and local law enforcement. This is what we can do when we work together and aren’t distracted by partisanship.

It’s a true honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions or would like to contact me, please click here.

My warmest regards,
