Fossil fuel feminism is a sinking ship - TOMORROW!
Join a creative protest organized by 350BK with Climate Families NYC (a protest for ALL ages!!) to call out “fossil fuel feminism” and banks that fund fossil fuels. Fighting the climate crisis is feminism, funding fossil fuel expansion is not - and we have identified some key targets that need to hear that. Come to a short but impactful and exciting action on Wednesday Oct 26th at 8.15am in Midtown Manhattan. If you’re interested in joining or learning more, please email [email protected] TODAY. Remember - there are no Girl Bosses on a dead planet!
It's Been Ten Years Since Sandy--Time to Take It to the Streets
Saturday, Oct. 29. 11 am - 12:30 pm
Meet at Park Avenue and 47th Street
Despite the accelerating climate crisis, big banks and financial institutions continue to heartlessly and heedlessly fund our destruction. Ten years ago, on October 29, 2012, SuperStorm Sandy hit New York City. Ten years later, the climate and inequality crisis is getting worse. And so, on this tenth anniversary, New Yorkers from all over the city will converge in a march from JP Morgan/Chase headquarters to BlackRock. We'll meet on Park Avenue and 47th Street at 11 am on Saturday, October 29. #OccupyParkAve #Sandy10March. Register for the Sandy 10th Anniversary March here.
March with Us in the Park Slope Halloween Parade!
Monday, October 31, 6:00 to 7:30
The great Park Slope Halloween Parade is back! The theme is "local heroes" and we'll be marching with the message "Be a Local Hero. Vote YES on the Environmental Bond Act on November 8." We'll have banners and signs. It will be very festive, a happy occasion for all. Can you help? Our contingent will gather at 6:00--meet under the streetlight in front of 405 14th Street. If you plan to be there, let our Spectacles & Parade committee know. [email protected] Join in the fun!
Join The Power Hour Team 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT, Every Monday and Wednesday
and by Popular Demand, Evening Power Hour, Wednesday at 8:00 pm EDT
This Wednesday, Oct. 26th, 12-1 pm and 8-9 pm (or join both)! We'll be gearing up for one of 350Brooklyn's highest priority campaigns: Protecting Local Law 97 which requires buildings over 25,000 sq ft to become energy efficient and create an estimated 140,000 new jobs. We must make sure the Adams administration/real estate lobby does not weaken the law via loopholes.
From now through November 14th we have a few weeks to mobilize council members to testify in support of the strong implementation of Local Law 97 and write our own testimony for the public hearing on November 14th.
Also, join us the week of October 31st 12 -1 pm, and Wednesday 12-1 and 8-9 pm to continue getting help to write your own testimony which can be submitted online or better yet, verbally over zoom. Don’t worry - we will provide a great toolkit and guide you through the whole process. Sign up to become a part of history-making with the world's boldest urban climate plan ever enacted! Already written your testimony? We'll have bonus actions ready for you! Sign up for Power Hour HERE.
NOTE: City Action tabling at Grand Army Plaza has ended for the season but watch this space for the return of ‘Coffee & Clipboarding’ and other freestyle canvassing events!
Vote YES on Proposition 1, the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act. November 8
The Environmental Bond Act that is on the ballot in November will bring New Yorkers a host of benefits. It will provide money for water systems, flood control, and stemming run-off from farms. It would install renewable energy systems in public buildings like schools and public colleges, and fund electric school buses. It would buy up land for conservation and expand public parks. It will promote environmental justice, as 35-40 % of the funding will go to disadvantaged communities. And it is projected to generate nearly 100,000 jobs. Early voting runs October 29 to November 6, and Election Day is November 8. Remember to flip your ballot over and vote Yes on Proposition 1!
November Meeting - 350 Brooklyn’s New Campaign: People v. Fossil Fuels
Tuesday, November 15th at 7:30 pm EDT on Zoom
As the climate movement gathers strength, the fossil fuel industry is fighting for its life. 350BK has joined the People v. Fossil Fuels campaign to bring the fight to the federal level. PVFF is a coalition of more than 1,200 organizations calling on President Biden to declare a national climate emergency, to leverage additional powers to take action as forests burn, hurricanes roar and lives and livelihoods are destroyed across the country. At our next meeting, hear from our two new campaign leaders and help us brainstorm goals and tactics for this campaign.
On 11/15 we will watch an outstanding new short film called "Dear President Biden" that takes stock of the Climate Movement, through the insights of scientists, and leaders from the primarily BIPOC frontline communities. We will build towards a national day of action in NYC on 1/20/23, to demand Biden Declare a Climate Emergency. This is an ideal campaign for NEW MEMBERS! Please share the link to invite someone you know to join the meeting!

We Had a Great "Blame Wall Street" Parade
On Saturday, October 15, the Stop the Money Pipeline working group–together with Climate Families NYC–told Brooklyn that we Blame Wall Street for climate chaos. Thank you to everyone who participated! With great live music from the Ecotones, costumes, banners and signs, we danced, marched, and read a letter at the dirtiest of banks: Chase, Citibank and Bank of America. Special guest Bill McKibben joined us, gave an impassioned speech and protested with us at the banks! Email us at [email protected] to get involved!
And the winner is . . . 350Brooklyn member Angelica Ramdhari!
The US Department of Energy has named Angelica Ramdhari (in the middle of the photo) as one of the winners of the 2022 Clean Energy Education and Empowerment Awards (nicknamed the C3E awards.) Education & Advocacy — Angelica Ramdhari is a director of Resilient Solar at Solar One, a nonprofit organization that provides technical assistance, training, and educational programs to foster sustainability in diverse urban communities. She directed the design and installation of several groundbreaking solar and battery projects in low-income coastal communities in Brooklyn and the Bronx, which she described in one of last year's Climate Wednesday programs with the Brooklyn Public Library.
