Dear Friend,

As the Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment period begins, I wanted to make sure you were aware of the monumental legislation we just passed in Congress to lower health care and prescription drug costs. The Inflation Reduction Act we passed in September is one of the most consequential votes for New Mexico’s families in generations. I’m proud that the landmark legislation both invests in clean energy jobs for New Mexicans and cuts health care and prescription drug costs for our communities.

This bill will make a huge difference in helping New Mexicans afford health care. Here are just a few of the ways the Inflation Reduction Act will help New Mexicans:

  • Capping Medicare Beneficiary Out-of-Pocket Costs: New Mexican Medicare recipients won’t pay more than $2,000 per year for their prescriptions.
  • Capping Insulin Copays: Out of pocket costs for insulin will cap at $35 a month.
  • Allowing Medicare to negotiate high-cost drug prices: New Mexicans who are Medicare Beneficiaries will see a reduction in out-of-pocket costs.

I grew up in New Mexico in a working family – I know firsthand the impact exorbitant medical bills have on our working families. This bill will lower health care costs for over 100,000 New Mexicans – putting money back in the pockets of our working families and allowing our communities to enjoy more financial security.

This is only the beginning—New Mexicans should be able to afford high quality health care coverage without worrying about how they will pay their bills or put food on the table.

For months, I was proud to fight alongside fellow Democratic members of Congress and President Biden to get this bill across the finish line. The work continues, but you can visit https://www.bewellnm.com/ to explore available health insurance options and find resources for you and your family.

How many people do you know who will be affected by the Inflation Reduction Act's prescription drug cap?
