Maine Forest Service Job Posting: Senior Planner

The Maine Forest Service (MFS) at the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry (DACF) is recruiting to fill the position of Senior Planner. Since 1891, the mission of MFS is to protect and enhance forest resources through fire prevention, technical assistance, education, outreach to a wide variety of audiences and enforcement of forest protection laws. MFS offices are found throughout Maine and provide its citizens with a wide range of forest-related services. This permanent, full-time position is based in Augusta with remote work options available subject to management approval.

*BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:? *This is a professional services position to coordinate and deliver the bureau?s activities regarding climate change and forest carbon and coordinate or provide support for other planning efforts, including the state?s forest action plan.

The position will recommend bureau program goals and direction with respect to climate change and forest carbon; decide on type of educational and informational material to develop; decide, develop, and implement training programs for staff, resource managers, and woodland owners; identify, review and recommend outside grant opportunities to support the program; and determine the value of and recommend participation in various interagency and external climate change/forest carbon initiatives.

The position will develop grant proposals to support program activities.? If successful, the position will be responsible for grant tracking and accomplishment reporting. The position will assist the Forest Policy and Management Division team in other planning efforts and coordinate the updating of the state?s forest action plan.

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of climate change issues, particularly as they affect Maine and Maine?s forests; knowledge of forest carbon dynamics, both in forests and forest products; have experience and/or education in climate change, forest carbon, research or data analysis, and practical forestry. Successful candidates will demonstrate flexibility, critical thinking, and cultural sensitivity. Finally, the successful candidate will have project development and grant management experience; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills; an ability to work well in teams and independently as the situation dictates; and, experience organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple work projects and types of activities, while meeting and managing deadlines.*?*
