Congress ( [link removed] )

John,

Over the past two
decades, Americans have quickly adopted the cell phone as their
only phone, opting to forego additional home phone lines and thus
avoiding the incessant solicitations that seem to come as soon as
the family sits down for dinner. Or so they thought.

With today’s technology, companies can place thousands of calls
to potential targets in mere minutes. In fact, last year, more
than 48 billion robocalls were made across our country. That
equates to approximately 130 calls for each person in America.

Aggressive sales tactics, unscrupulous scammers, and phone
spammers have all but taken over the airwaves, and, to put it
plainly, Americans are just tired of it.

I’m happy to report that just this week Congress passed the
Stopping Bad Robocalls Act to tackle this problem head-on.

The bill requires the FCC to close robocall loopholes that
allowed scammers in, to sharpen call technology to spot fake
caller IDs and catch them before they spread, and to make it
easier for law enforcement agencies to prosecute organizations
and solicitations that continue to break the rules.

Stopping Bad Robocalls passed Congress 429 votes to 3, and when
enacted will help stop nuisance calls and better protect our
right to privacy! It’s another example of the bipartisan work I
pledged to do for you in Washington.

As always, I appreciate the confidence you put in me as your
Congressperson and as I continue to serve the people of South
Florida.

Thank you.

Donna
