Dear John,

Ted Pankiewicz

Be sure to visit our website:

It's the last Monday of 2019....
where DID the time go?

This space is usually taken up with a report on the national political scene. However, that group has been relatively quiet. This state of affairs does bring to mind a humorous old quote from an almost-forgotten 19th century legal decision, however. "[N]o man's life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session." The proper legal citation, for those that care, is: The final accounting in the Estate of A. B., 1 Tucker 247, p. 249 (N. Y. Surr. 1866). The author of this particular nugget of wisdom was the Surrogate of New York County (i.e., Manhattan), Gideon Tucker.

Since Congress is not in session, and our life, liberty and property are thus relatively safe, let us turn our attention to some local news. You may remember that our good friend Bob Youngblood was the victim of an assault on October 25, 2019, when his MAGA cap was knocked off his head and he was spit upon by a man. Bob informs me that the individual in question has entered a plea of "no contest" this past Friday, and will be sentenced today, December 30. Let's all give a cheer for swift justice here in our home county!

A cautionary note: tomorrow night is New Year's Eve, a notoriously dangerous night to be on the roads. Drive safely, watch out for the other guy -- and USE A DESIGNATED DRIVER! Enjoy a safe and happy, and above all HEALTHY New Year, and we'll see you all soon!
