Dear Friend,
In the midst of this holiday season the administration is quietly plotting to arrest family members who step forward to sponsor children out of custody. Essentially, if a parent, aunt, big brother or grandparent applies for a child’s release and gets denied, that adult may get deported. The goal: to frighten family members from sponsoring children’s release from government custody. In effect, it’s an end run around Congress which has made clear they don’t want parents and other loving family members to have to choose between reunifying with their children and risking deportation.
YOUR voice put a halt to another version of this policy. We need you again. Members of Congress are “home” in their districts, but their staff are listening. Please call your member of Congress. Ask them to ensure parents and families can safely sponsor children’s release from government custody.
We’ve asked so much of you this year. Thank you for believing in and continuing to support our efforts to respond quickly to looming threats against immigrant children and their families.
With thanks,
Jennifer Nagda
Policy Director
