Hi John,
In August, our team sent you an email explaining the Biden Administration’s plan to tackle the student debt crisis.
In less than one week, more than 22 million people have already filled out the online application to have all or some of their debt cancelled.
But late Friday night, just hours before the first debt was set to be actually cancelled, a panel of right-wing judges temporarily blocked the plan in response to a lawsuit brought by six state Republican Attorneys General.
This is just another example of Republicans doing all they can to stop working people from growing our wealth or power. To put it plainly, John: They are trying to take money straight out of your pocket.
However, President Biden’s legal authority is clear — and there is no legal reason why the debt cancellation plan should not move forward.
That’s why we are joining other advocates in encouraging folks to continue to apply for cancellation, if you haven’t already:
Click the following URL, or copy and paste it into your browser, to fill out the application for student loan cancellation:
https://studentaid.gov/debt-relief/application
(There are scams out there — the application is only on .gov websites. Always double check your URL before providing personal information.)
This program is an example of the amazing things that we can accomplish through organizing — and through electing candidates who will do the hard work necessary to create a more fair and equitable system for all.
At the same time, the outrageous actions of Republican judges and Attorneys General are also an example of what happens when we lose elections.
If we don’t defeat them, these Republican judges and politicians will continue their assault on working families while making sure the rich continue to get richer.
That’s why it is so important that we keep up our work to elect more working families champions to office at every level, John. Chip in just $4 or any amount to WFP to keep powering this movement through Election Day and beyond:
