December is often a time when people make promises and plans for the new year.

At Earthjustice, we are busy planning the legal fights we will take on in 2020. With more than 140 lawyers in 17 offices across the country, we plan to have a huge impact. Because you care deeply about our work, I wanted to give you an inside look into what we have planned for the coming year. [link removed]

Here are a few things on the docket:

Protecting endangered wildlife and the laws that keep them safe: Not only has this administration taken aim at countless endangered species, it is also trying to gut the bedrock law put in place to protect them. We are challenging the rollback of this law and working to protect whales, wolves, grizzlies, and other endangered wildlife.

Stopping old-growth logging in the Tongass: We have spent decades defending Alaska's Tongass National forest, and we are doubling down on those efforts in 2020. We are opposing a massive logging project in this vital wildlife habitat and carbon sink.

Advocating for clean energy in coal country: All across the country we are fighting for a transition to 100% clean energy--even in coal country. In West Virginia, Earthjustice is working with groups that are challenging local utilities' ability to charge customers for the high costs of operating their outdated and inefficient coal-fired power plants, while advocating for a shift to clean energy.

Reining in petrochemicals: In an area of Louisiana known as "Cancer Alley" because of its concentration of industrial facilities and high cancer rates, we are representing community groups who are fighting back to stop the construction of a $9.4 billion petrochemical complex.

To take on fights like these and win, we need your support. And if you make a new or increased gift before the end of the year, the Sandler Foundation will match it $1-for-$1 up to $10,000!

You are an invaluable partner in this fight. I look forward to all we will accomplish together in 2020.

Sincerely,

Sam Sankar
