Did you know that on average, only 40 percent of eligible voters cast a ballot during midterm election years like this one? That’s 20 percent less than we typically see in presidential election years.

The other unfortunate truth is that it’s common for the sitting president’s party to lose control of Congress in midterm elections. Republicans need to flip just 5 seats to take the House this November.

But here’s why we’re hopeful: voter registration has skyrocketed this year in the aftermath of the conservative Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Most people are not okay with this attack on reproductive choice or the continued attacks on our free and fair elections by election-denying extremists like Yvette Herrell.

People have witnessed far-right elected officials like Herrell stand in the way of progress and push a harmful agenda time and time again, whether it’s attempting to ban abortion nationwide, suppress the right to vote, and oppose raising the federal minimum wage, block paid family leave, improvements to veterans’ healthcare, a cap on insulin prices, and more.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel: this November 8, we can defy the odds and come together to unseat dangerous politicians like Herrell and replace them with leaders like Gabe who will fight for our best interests in Washington.
