Dear John,
Women received the right to vote with the 19th amendment. End of story, right?
Well, it’s complicated.
Across the country, voter ID laws are creating additional barriers for some women who want to vote.
Seven out of 10 women change their last name when they get married or divorced. As a result, the ID they present at the polls may not match the name they originally registered to vote with (sometimes years ago). Trans women in particular can face discrimination and additional voting barriers if their gender presentation and name varies from their IDs.
You may have heard that women are registering to vote in record numbers for the 2022 midterms. Now, we need your help to ensure these new registrants show up to vote — with the confidence that comes from knowing they have the right form of ID to successfully cast their ballot.
* Encourage the women in your life to do an ID check and get informed on what ID (if any) they need to vote. >> [link removed]
* Share our resources for LGBTQ+ voters, who face extra barriers to voting if their ID doesn’t match their name and gender. >> [link removed]
* If you need help, let us know! All of our services are free of charge and we can help you get the documents or ID you need, including covering costs, making appointments, and providing transportation. >> [link removed]
We have a lot of work to do in the next 16 days. It’s critical we fulfill the promise and potential of the 19th amendment: that all women have the right to vote.
Thank you for all that you do,
Selene Gomez

P.S. Because an ID is often required for employment, housing, and government services, our work to obtain IDs helps women do even more than vote! You can support our mission with a donation today.
