Hi John,
Knowing our history helps inform our road ahead, particularly in challenging moments. We know we’ll see more challenges in the coming year and that your support will be more critical than ever. [[link removed]]
So in honor of LGBTQ+ History Month, I’d like to share a bit of history about Equality Federation and the growth of the state-based LGBTQ+ movement.
Fun fact: Equality Federation was born in 1997 in the same room where Rosa Parks was trained in civil disobedience at the Highlander Center in Tennessee.
The number of state leaders was so small that they fit in a circle of rocking chairs to envision Equality Federation.
Today, our membership consists of 44 state partners across the United States.

We work collaboratively on critical issues—from advancing workplace fairness and family recognition to defeating anti-transgender bills and HIV criminalization laws—that affect how LGBTQ+ people experience the world from the cradle to the grave.
In the words of Paula Ettelbrick, a founder of Equality Federation, "We have known for many years that the real battles facing our communities would be fought in the State Houses across the country.”
Please join us by investing in another 25 years of building power in our network of state-based LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations. [[link removed]]
