John, BREAKING: Free Speech For People and Equal Citizens, on behalf of individual Massachusetts voters, have filed two lawsuits in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court challenging the Massachusetts Attorney General’s rejection of an initiative petition that would end super PACs in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office recently declined to certify our proposed ballot initiative petition that would stop super PAC spending in Massachusetts elections, claiming that the measure would violate the right to free speech. Yet, in Massachusetts, no legal precedent supports that argument. That’s why we’re taking this fight to court. To get this initiative petition to the state ballot in 2024, we need your help. Will you donate today to help us end super PACs in Massachusetts? By definition, super PACs exist by accepting unlimited contributions, which, with certain super PACs, have included multi-million dollar gifts. Our proposed initiative seeks to address quid pro quo corruption and the appearance of corruption created by these contributions. If passed, this measure would limit contributions to $5,000 per individual, which would effectively eliminate super PACs. Getting this initiative petition on the 2024 ballot is the first step in overturning the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals’ disastrous 2010 decision in SpeechNow v. FEC, which created super PACs in federal elections. It puts us on the road to a democracy without the influence of big money. But we can’t do it without you. Chip in today to help us bring an end to super PACs in Massachusetts and nationwide.
