Global Citizen, Since 2011, Global Citizens, alongside partners like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Rotary International, have campaigned to eradicate life-threatening disease, polio, worldwide. A decade later millions of Global Citizens have taken action to help deliver $2.6 billion in commitments to partners like the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to continue delivering vaccines to the world’s hardest-to-reach places. This year, we traveled to Kano in Nigeria to meet WHO vaccination coordinator Dr. Abubakar and mother of five Hafsat, who’s helped protect communities — and her own family — from the deadly disease, thanks in part to the actions of Global Citizens. Today, polio is 99.9% eradicated — but we’re aiming for 100%. |
