Responses will help guide potential expansion of state aerial imagery program
The Department of Commerce is conducting a survey to identify the uses, needs, costs and benefits of a potential expansion of the state's?aerial imagery program.
Background
The Washington State Legislature authorized (HB 1629 (2022)) a study of the aerial imagery needs of local governments, special purpose districts (including school districts), state agencies and tribal governments and to provide findings and recommendations.
Washington state has a statewide program that provides aerial imagery at a six-inch orthophotography level. Most jurisdictions purchase their own aerial imagery independently, often resulting in multiple payments for the same data to be collected.
This survey will inform a report and recommendations due to the Legislature in June 2023.
