Friend โ€”

Since June, severe flooding in Pakistan has impacted more than 33 million people โ€” nearly one third of the country was under water. Tragically, more than 1,400 people have lost their lives and millions of acres have been destroyed, including crops and livestock that people rely on for survival.

While the rains have since stopped, farmlands remain devastated by the flooding. Food is in short supply and the risk of disease looms as people lack access to proper hygienic facilities.

Thanks to generous support from supporters, the IRC and partner organizations have been on the ground since early July, providing lifesaving services, distributing supplies, and setting up medical camps.

We are prioritizing support for pregnant and lactating women, who are at greater risk of domestic violence and other abuse during crises. We are dispatching food supplies, dignity and hygiene kits, basic household items, and setting up medical response centers to assist pregnant women and new mothers impacted by the floods.

The devastation of the flooding shows climate change is already here and taking a horrific toll on lives and livelihoods. Pakistan is one of the countries bearing the bulk of those costs despite contributing very little to global climate emissions.

We at the IRC are calling on world leaders to provide humanitarian and technical support to Pakistan in order to help alleviate the unfair burden the country and its people are facing.

Support from our donors is what makes this work possible. We at the IRC are incredibly grateful for all that you do to bring hope to people living through crises around the world.

Sincerely,
