Dear Friend --
One question we receive a lot these days
is, “what can I do now to help end nuclear weapons?” As the reckless
rhetoric and actions from nuclear-armed states keep making headlines,
people are understandably feeling anxious about nuclear war and want
to act. While this is a long-term fight, you taking action right
now can really help prevent the use of nuclear weapons. So here are
three things you can do now that will make a difference:
-
Speak up against nuclear weapons and the threats to use
them.
We urgently need to delegitimize threats
and use of nuclear weapons to raise the threshold for world leaders.
ICAN's partner organisations are working around the clock with our
government contacts all over the world to make sure all governments
condemn these threats and prevent nuclear use, and we need
strong public support for that message at all levels. So use
your voice however you feel most comfortable, whether it’s on social
media, in a letter to the editor or in a phone call/email to your
MP.
The current nuclear threats must never become
the norm, so speak out against it and ask others to do the same. We
can all contribute to that by speaking out and opposing these weapons,
the threats and any potential use to prevent this from being
normalized. If you want to learn more about how and why
delegitimization can help prevent nuclear weapons from being
used, check out this briefing paper on delegitimization ».
-
Get your community involved
In the 80s,
people from all kinds of groups got involved in the fight to stop
nuclear war between the US and the Soviet Union. There were
organisations like "hairdressers against the bomb," showing that
everyone has a voice. We need them back. We need EVERY
community to raise their voice against nuclear weapons: artists,
churches, gardening groups, sports clubs, and others. So in your next
get together or in a group chat, start the conversation: "Shall we
take a stand against nuclear weapons together? How can we best use our
strengths to do this? And if you're part of a non-governmental
organisation, consider becoming an ICAN partner (learn more

Support a local partner organisation
You’re
already part of this movement if you’re reading this email, but did
you know that ICAN has over 650 partners in 110 countries? So chances
are, there’s a community of people like you nearby, who are already
taking action to help end nuclear weapons and could use your support
for their next action. Check out our global partner list here »
I hope this email has inspired you to
speak up or given you ideas to get those around you involved in this
movement too.
Thank you for all that you do,
Lucero Oyarzun Digital Campaign
Coordinator ICAN
