The One-Minute Meeting

What Walensky’s COVID infection reminds us

The head of the CDC, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, a leader in the fight against COVID-19 and for vaccination booster shots, tested positive for the virus over the weekend. Walensky’s infection reminds us that COVID is not over, and another wave could be ahead, soon. Journalists would be wise to remind the public that new data clearly shows that people who are vaccinated have significantly less chance of getting sick, being hospitalized and dying from the virus. I will show you the newest data.

Pediatric ICUs filling with RSV cases

It has been a rough weekend for hospitals that are filling with RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus cases. Today we will be watching to see the new admissions figures from the weekend.

  • The virus affects young children, and there is no vaccine against it.
  • The virus is not unusual, but the size of the outbreak is.
  • Breathing difficulties and cold- and flu-like symptoms can last for weeks.
  • Cases are appearing significantly earlier than normal.
  • A new vaccine is in development for seniors, who also may get infected.

I will explain the symptoms and show you the figures that have health officials so alarmed.

College loan forgiveness program awaits court ruling

  • The first applications were to be processed yesterday, but a federal appeals court put that on hold.
  • Six states are attempting to stop the program.
  • 22 million Americans have already applied for loan help and millions more are eligible.
  • The application website is still open.
