Already, CHN and our allies have sent tens of thousands of messages to members of Congress, demanding permanent protections for people who already call the United States home. Now, business leaders have joined the call to action, predicting an economic “crisis” if the courts strike down protections for Dreamers.

More than 1.3 million people live with a DACA recipient, including 300,000 U.S.-born children who have at least one parent with DACA.¹

When we talk about defending DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) against xenophobic court challenges by conservative states, we often talk in terms of humanitarian needs―allowing people to live and work without fear of deportation, and without tearing families apart.

But if DACA was to be overturned, it would also have a devastating economic impact on the United States.

Just look at this recent headline:

If DACA is rescinded and participants lose their work authorization, an estimated 22,000 jobs would be lost every month for two years.¹

Over the past year and a half, more than 343,000 DACA recipients in the workforce were employed in jobs deemed essential by the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Of this, 34,000 were health care workers providing patient care, and another 11,000 individuals were working in health care settings keeping these facilities functioning.²
