An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino
SPOTLIGHT
It's Cybersecurity Awareness Month!
As Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Committee's Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Innovation, Andrew urges all of his constituents to take stock of how they engage online and to take steps to protect themselves and their organizations from cyber crime. Andrew wants to highlight some simple steps everyone can take:

  • Think Before You Click: Recognize and Report Phishing: If a link looks a little off, think before you click. It could be an attempt to get sensitive information or install malware.
  • Update Your Software: Don't delay -- If you see a software update notification, act promptly. Better yet, turn on automatic updates.
  • Use Strong Passwords: Use passwords that are long, unique, and randomly generated. Use password managers to generate and remember different, complex passwords for each of your accounts. A passwords manager will encrypt passwords securing them for you!
  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication: You need more than a password to protect your online accounts, and enabling MFA makes you significantly less likely to get hacked.

ANDREW IN THE NEWS
"
Crime is getting worse every week in New York City and across the state because of the bad policies of Gov. Kathy Hochul and her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo, along with the Democrat-controlled New York Legislature, Rep. Andrew Garbarino, R-N.Y., told Newsmax Thursday. 'They started these bail reform policies, and now New York residents are paying for them by facing tougher crime and higher crime in our communities,' the Republican said on Newsmax's 'Wake Up America.' 'People are scared, and the Democrats in control are doing nothing to fix it right now,'..."There are so many people in the city that need to get to and from work, and not just residents of the city, but constituents of mine that are traveling every day from Long Island, that need they able to feel that they can take the subway safely."

Andrew Urges Ways & Means Committee To Address Tax Burden Harming New York Businesses
This week, Andrew signed a letter to House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Neal and Ranking Member Brady urging them act to reverse the unintended adverse impacts of the Base Erosion and Anti-Abuse Tax (BEAT) and highlighting its impact on Canon, which has offices in Melville, NY. The letter reads in part, "BEAT creates disparate and inequitable conditions for hundreds of our hardworking constituents and has a serious impact on this company’s ability to grow its workforce and make the necessary investments to support its business. Therefore, we respectfully request that this language be included in a relevant legislative vehicle as soon as possible to reverse the harmful impact it has had not only on this constituent business, but others around the country." Andrew will always fight to reduce overly burdensome taxes on New York businesses.
Andrew Raises Concern Over Display of Antisemitism
Andrew recently joined with more than a dozen of his bipartisan colleagues in sending a letter to Secretary Blinken urging the State Department to report to Congress on the status of its investigations of several antisemitic incidents - including antisemitic graffiti on the building and reports of antisemitism online from State Department staff- which took place at the Department one year ago, and on the general existence of antisemitism within the State Department. Instances of antisemitism or any kind of hate are never permissible within our government institutions.
