John, you're probably catching up with lots of news over the holidays.
I wanted to make sure this story didn't fall by the wayside -- because it goes to the heart of why we need people like Nancy fighting for smart environmental policies in Congress.
On Wednesday, Donald Trump went on a bizarre, baffling rant against wind -- a renewable energy source that is essential to any real plan to combat climate change.
As reported by The Washington Post:
“I never understood wind,” Trump said at the start of the lengthy tangent, days after he became the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. “You know, I know windmills very much. I’ve studied it better than anybody I know. It’s very expensive. They’re made in China and Germany mostly -- very few made here, almost none. But they’re manufactured tremendous -- if you’re into this -- tremendous fumes. Gases are spewing into the atmosphere.”
This is gaslighting by Trump of the highest order. Research consistently shows that wind energy has one of the smallest carbon footprints among sources of electricity, and that wind turbines significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. But for Trump - these facts are simply irrelevant.
When the President of the United States uses his unique megaphone to spout such blatant nonsense, we need people like Nancy to call him out and set the record straight. Nancy's scientific background makes her an invaluable champion for truth on the environment.
So can you rush $50 or any amount to help get to Congress? Nancy’s opponent Lee Zeldin has stood 100% behind the Trump agenda, and we need real leadership again in Suffolk County. Donate before the FEC deadline on Tuesday!
