Most of the headlines on the midterm elections are about Congress.
But we’ve also got dozens of governor’s races across the country — and they are powerfully important.
Governors can make the difference between people getting health care or having to skip doctor’s appointments. Governors can determine whether kids are going into well-funded classrooms with well-supported teachers. And now that the Supreme Court has left abortion policy up to the states, governors can be the last line of defense for the right to an abortion.
So today, I want to call attention to four terrific Democratic candidates for governor: Stacey Abrams in Georgia, Tony Evers in Wisconsin, Tina Kotek in Oregon, and Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania. And with just over two weeks until Election Day, I’m asking if you can pitch in to support their campaigns.
If you’re able to, please split a donation today between Stacey Abrams, Tony Evers, Tina Kotek, Josh Shapiro, and our re-election campaign. $3 or whatever makes sense for you would make a real difference in these final days of getting out the vote.

Let’s talk about why I’ve got my eye on these races in particular.
Stacey Abrams needs no introduction. From fighting for voting rights to paying down medical debt for Georgians, she’s already delivered victories for working people. She fought hard and won to flip two U.S. Senate seats and take back control in 2020 and 2021. And she’s got plans to make sure every Georgian can thrive.
But she’s in a tough rematch against Republican Governor Brian Kemp, who’s restricted the freedom to vote, refused to expand Medicaid, and signed one of the nation’s harshest abortion bans into law. We’ve got to send him packing.
Tony Evers is running for re-election in one of the closest swing states in the country. He’s a former public school teacher who’s increased funding for education, fought to overturn an abortion ban that dates back to 1849, and held the line against a gerrymandered, Republican-dominated state legislature.
Meanwhile, his opponent has promised to disband the state’s bipartisan Elections Commission ahead of 2024, called people “lazy” for getting stimulus checks and unemployment benefits in the pandemic, and said Donald Trump didn’t “do anything wrong” on January 6.
Tina Kotek, a former Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives, has gotten big things done for working families, like raising the minimum wage, expanding health care coverage to all Oregonians, and passing landmark laws to make sure Oregonians have paid sick leave and paid family leave.
But she’s in an unusual three-way race, and a spoiler candidate could power the Republican nominee to victory. The polls are tight. If we don’t get Tina across the finish line, Oregon could have a GOP governor who opposes gun safety measures and said she “looks forward to the day” abortion rights are restricted.
As Pennsylvania’s attorney general, Josh Shapiro defended the results of the 2020 election all the way up to the Supreme Court. And abortion is only legal in Pennsylvania right now because the current Democratic governor can veto the Republican legislature’s anti-choice bills — so we’ve got to keep it that way.
And we can’t let Josh’s Republican opponent, Doug Mastriano, get anywhere near the governor’s mansion. Doug spread lies about the 2020 election, paid to bus Pennsylvanians to Donald Trump’s rally on January 6, was at the U.S. Capitol that day, and would have the power as governor to appoint Pennsylvania’s top elections official. We’ve got to stop him.
Let’s make sure Stacey, Tony, Tina, and Josh have all the resources they need to win.
