This is Congressman Adam Schiff. At this moment, I truly believe that we are at even greater risk of losing our democracy than we were on January 6.

Dear MoveOn member,

This is Congressman Adam Schiff.

At this moment, I truly believe that we are at even greater risk of losing our democracy than we were on January 6. And that's not hyperbole.

You see, on January 6, violent insurrectionists attacked the Capitol from outside. But the next time America chooses a president in 2024, the people trying to overturn our democracy may be on the inside. And wreacking absolute havoc.

Republican election deniers who have openly said they will use voter suppression and fake electors—and who may use violence if necessary to overturn election results—are running for secretary of state in several of the key battleground states that will decide the 2024 presidential election.1

What worries me most is that voting has already begun in some states, and these races have gotten so little media coverage that many voters will have no idea when they go to vote which candidates are committed to upholding the results of the 2024 election and which are not.

That's why I'm writing to you today to ask you to make a donation to the campaigns of Adrian Fontes and Cisco Aguilar, the pro-democracy secretary of state candidates running in the critical battleground states of Arizona and Nevada.

In 2020, Donald Trump was the primary purveyor of the Big Lie that the election was stolen. But now, that Big Lie has proliferated. And Republicans are preparing to succeed where they failed before by installing Trump cronies who will "find" the 11,780 votes that don't exist and overturn the results of the next election.

That's why it's so critical that we help these pro-democracy candidates get their message out and defend our democracy:

In Arizona, Democrat Adrian Fontes is running for secretary of state against Mark Finchem, a member of the Oath Keepers who attended the January 6 insurrection and claims that "the real insurrection" was how Democratic officials in Arizona had rigged the election with "tens of thousands of fraudulent votes."2,3

And in Nevada, Democrat Cisco Aguilar is running for secretary of state against Jim Marchant, a conspiracy theorist who claims that the winner of every single election in Nevada since 2006 has been selected by a "deep state cabal" and openly admits that he will use fake electors if necessary to overturn a Democratic victory in the 2024 election.4

These are the races that could determine whether our democracy survives the current crisis posed by Donald Trump and his insurrectionist followers. And they need your help.

But part of the challenge is that candidates running for down-ballot races like secretary of state have a much harder time raising money to get their message out. That's why I'm asking you, as a MoveOn member who understands what's at stake, to make a donation right now to the pro-democracy candidates running for secretary of state in the crucial battleground states of Arizona and Nevada.

John, the Big Lie lives on. The only way to defeat it once and for all is to win at the ballot box. And that means electing these two Democrats as secretaries of state.

For the sake of our democracy, please make a $3 donation today. Your donation will be split evenly between the campaigns of Adrian Fontes and Cisco Aguilar, the pro-democracy secretary of state candidates in Arizona and Nevada.

Thanks for all you do.

–Congressman Adam Schiff

Want to support MoveOn's work? Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers. We've launched a powerful, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop Trump. But we need your help to power our effort.

Will you chip in to power our campaign to defeat Trump cronies this November and elect officials who will count each and every vote?
