Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here President Joe Biden Must Do More to Unleash America's Domestic Energy Production President Biden's war on American energy is unacceptable and sending costs through the roof. That's why I joined with House Republican Whip Steve Scalise and 128 of my House Republican colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden calling on him to immediately stop his war on American energy production and issue a five-year offshore oil and natural gas leasing plan to unleash America's energy independence. As a result, of President Biden's policies, the United States is no longer energy independent, and our nation is less secure because of it. In order to reduce the dramatically higher energy costs hard-working families are facing, my colleagues and I called on President Biden to reverse course and work with us to unleash safe and reliable American energy. This must start by issuing a five-year leasing plan that includes regular annual lease sales in America’s offshore areas. You can read the full letter here. Election Integrity Update: My Statement on This Week's Record Early Voting Turnout in Georgia This week, on day one of early voting in Georgia, nearly 125,000 Georgians turned out in-person to vote in the midterm elections—an increase of more than 50,000 from the previous record for the first day of early voting. This is a tremendous success for the people of Georgia, who are turning out in record numbers to exercise their sacred right to vote. What this week's record turnout also shows is that Georgia’s recently passed election integrity law is not ‘Jim Crow in the 21st Century,’ as President Biden falsely claimed. It is not inhibiting access to the ballot box, as the President and so many woke corporations asserted falsely that it would. This law is working exactly as intended: making it easier to vote and harder to cheat. President Biden and the woke corporations that deliberately lied about Georgia’s election integrity law to divide Americans and score cheap political points owe the nation an apology. Introduced Legislation Codifying President Trump's Sanctions on Iran READ MORE: This Bill Would Sanction Iran’s Leaders for Human Rights Crimes. Not a Single Democrat Supports It. On Friday, I joined Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) as an original cosponsor of the Mahsa Amini Human Rights and Security Accountability Act, or MAHSA Act, to support Iranian human rights protestors. The bill codifies sanctions that originally began under former President Trump. The Iranian regime’s heartless murder of Mahsa Ahmini once again exposed the reality that Iran’s government abuses and subjugates women. Furthermore, the brutal crackdown on protestors has shown the regime's absolute disdain for basic human rights and underscores the need for a more permanent set of sanctions against the government. I am grateful to Congressman Banks for his leadership on this critical initiative! The full text of the bill is available here. I recently introduced a bipartisan, bicameral resolution commending the Iranian people for their bravery in standing up against this regime. It also urged the Biden administration to continue to impose human rights sanctions, prioritize efforts to expand internet access in Iran, and work to develop a strategy to prevent the Iranian regime from obtaining and exploiting facial recognition data and software for the use of mass surveillance and enforcement of mandatory hijab. The resolution now has 40 cosponsors in the House, and the Senate Companion, introduced by Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), has 10 cosponsors. My Statement on the January 6th Committee's Subpoena of President Trump This week, the House January 6th Committee released its formal subpoena of former President Donald Trump. Speaker Pelosi’s January 6th Committee has been a partisan, Soviet-style show trial from the start. The Committee has abandoned the basic principles of fairness and due process guaranteed to all by our Constitution, and it appears to me that their primary objective is to smear former President Trump and his supporters, not to get the truth of what really happened on January 6th. Now, with the midterm elections just weeks away, the Committee has taken the extraordinary step of subpoenaing a former President. The subpoena is an ‘October Surprise,’ which is calculated solely to ignite the Democrat base just weeks before the election. Cosponsor Alert: Protect Farmers from the SEC Act I recently cosponsored the Protect Farmers from the SEC Act. You may have seen that the Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC) proposed a climate-related rule that would require companies to report their carbon emissions and other climate-related data, including similar information from their "upstream" and "downstream" affiliates. This proposed rule could have a detrimental impact on our agriculture industry, especially our family farms. It would give the SEC unprecedented control over farmers, require vast amounts of information about farmers' day-to-day operations, and create onerous reporting requirements for small operations, even those with few-to-no employees. This bill would exempt agriculture from this proposed rule. I'm honored to be a cosponsor and stand in support of our family farms! Oswego County Public Safety Building Dedicated for Former Sheriff Reuel "Moe" Todd On Friday, I had the privilege of attending the dedication ceremony for the Oswego county public safety building, which was just renamed for former Sheriff Reuel "Moe" Todd. A lifelong Oswego County resident, Sheriff Todd served a total of 44 years with the Department and was elected to five terms as the County's sheriff. Thank you to Sheriff Todd for his service to our communities! Update on New York's Unconstitutional Concealed Carry Improvement Act Legal challenges to New York's unconstitutional Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA) continue to make their way through the Courts. This week, one specific challenge prevailed in a federal court in Western New York when U.S. District Court Judge John Sinatra issued a temporary stay that blocked a provision of the CCIA that prohibits individuals from carrying a concealed firearm in houses of worship, taking away a key defense for many. This is a major win for the Second Amendment and our Constitution! As a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, I'll always fight to protect New Yorkers' right to keep and bear arms. Last week, I introduced a resolution with Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (NY-21) condemning the CCIA as unconstitutional, and I'll continue fighting to overturn this law.
