I won’t sugarcoat it, John: The voting rights cases SCOTUS is hearing this term are a big deal.
But guess what? The work we're doing to support pro-democracy candidates and protect election infrastructure will actually help us respond down the line to whatever SCOTUS does.
See, Republicans are arguing that SCOTUS should allow state legislatures (which just so happen to be controlled by the GOP in key swing states – thanks, gerrymandering!) to effectively run federal elections on their own, without any checks from courts, governors, or potentially even voters.
But we can prevent a nightmare scenario in which GOP legislatures overturn election results they don’t like by flipping those legislatures blue in this election!
How we’re doing it:
- ➔ We’ve spent the past few months targeting critical races in 17 states.
- ➔ We just announced a partnership with The States Project to zero in on Arizona, Colorado, New Hampshire, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, five swing states with flippable chambers.
- ➔ Axios is calling it “Democrats’ state legislature sprint.”
But like everything we do, grassroots support will be KEY – and time is running out!! I know not everyone can give every time we ask, but if just 100 people reading this pitch in right now, it would make a HUGE difference!
