Last week we were shocked when the Climate Action Council (CAC) staff recommended a rollback of the timeline for getting fossil fuels out of new buildings. Staff proposed troubling changes for the CAC scoping plan: changing the timeline from a 2024 start to 2025 and applying it only to buildings 3 stories and under.

In response, 56 state and regional organizations signed onto a letter calling on Governor Hochul and Climate Action Council members to reject the CAC staff's proposal to delay and weaken the Scoping Plan's new building electrification timeline and scope. We continue to accept organization sign ons through Monday. Please sign on your organizations and groups. We've already increased the list to 85!

We're also expressing our opposition to the troubling changes by attending the Climate Action Council meeting on Tuesday, October 25. The staff proposal is a costly delay that we cannot afford. Please join us in sending a clear message to Governor Hochul and the Climate Action Council that delays are unacceptable.

Three more ways to take action:

CALL Sign up for a call-relay to Governor Hochul Monday Oct 24.  Here's how it works.  Sign up for a time to make your call. At your chosen time: make the call, follow the script, and record the results of your call. Then text the next person in line to let them know it's their turn. It's a fun way to connect to others and feel like you're part of a movement while keeping the Gov's phone ringing all day!

Encourage others to call Governor Hochul at 877-235-6537 & urge her to ban fracked gas in new buildings starting in 2024 and to include the All Electric New Buildings Act in her budget. It’s critical the she hears from New Yorkers across the state: the transition timeline must be faster and she must be a climate leader and protect New Yorkers’ health and climate.

TWEET If you use Twitter, like and retweet the tweets about the Climate Action Council and the Scoping Plan from @RenewablHeatNow

SIGN our online postcard (for individuals) and/or the urgent organizational sign-on letter (groups/organizations only).

Thank you for everything you are doing to help get fossil fuels out of our buildings! We will share more actions in the coming weeks; please stay tuned! With your help we can win affordable fossil-free homes for all New Yorkers!
