John, recent studies show that 1 in 3 Black residents in California has experienced racism while receiving medical care.

This statistic is alarming and unacceptable.

But with structural racism heavily ingrained in our health care system, this is the reality for Black Americans across our country.

This issue is deeply personal to Barbara, and throughout her time in Congress, she has been a leading advocate in the fight for eradicating racial inequalities in our health care system.

Alongside Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Barbara introduced the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act in 2021 to strengthen the federal government’s ability to develop anti-racist health policy. With racism rampant in our health care system, we must make passing this bill a priority — sooner rather than later.
