It pains me to say this, but we’re seeing a resurgence of some extremely nasty rhetoric. Donald Trump’s recent post on his make-believe social media platform Truth Social was a disgrace.
“Before it is too late…”
Trump is trying to intimidate Jewish Americans, who live with the trauma of the Holocaust indelibly etched into the collective Jewish psyche, into supporting the Trump Republican Party. His tweet was beyond atrocious. It is outright dangerous! But John, that’s the unfortunate and perilous current state of our national political discourse. And there’s a clear choice to make, because our decency and humanity are at stake.
Democracy is on the ballot. Freedom is on the ballot. And with this appeal to the fear and prejudices of others, it’s clear that life and liberty are on the ballot.
I wish we could count on members of the other party to condemn this type of hate-filled rhetoric. But not a single Republican member of Congress has spoken out against this blatant anti-Semitism. Not a single one! They appear content to go along with whatever Trump says if they think it will help them politically. Time after time, they do what Trump wants them to do.
Thank you,
Hank Johnson
