We learned many important lessons from the 2020 election, one of the most important being that we must protect our democracy at all costs.

Donald Trump and his allies relentlessly pushed dangerous lies to undermine our elections, which we know directly sparked the violent insurrection on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Congress recently took a major step in making sure that can’t happen again.

The Electoral Count Act will strengthen the standards needed for Members of Congress to object to Electoral College votes and clarify the Vice President’s role in the presidential certification process as ceremonial.

In short, my colleagues and I in Congress are working to uphold good governance, protecting the very foundations of our democracy.
