We can no longer afford hyper-partisan, ineffectual leadership in Washington that is not focused on addressing Connecticut’s most pressing issues.

Jayme Stevenson Statement on Biden Releasing Additional Strategic Oil Reserves

FAIRFIELD, CT - President Biden announced on Wednesday that he plans to release an additional 15 million barrels from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve due to production cuts announced by the OPEC+ nations. Biden’s attempt to convince Saudi leaders to postpone the cuts for a month was rebuffed by OPEC leaders. The release of 180 million barrels of oil since March, brings the strategic reserves to the lowest levels since 1984. This announcement follows weeks of Democrats losing ground at the polls as rising prices and high energy costs are taking their toll on the residents of Connecticut.  How much further is Biden willing to go putting our nation at risk with our global foes to buy this election for Jim Himes and other Democrats on the ballot?

In these last weeks leading up to the election, Biden’s gambit is meant to suppress rising gasoline prices at the pump and home heating oil prices as the global supply of available oil is declining. CT residents and retirees on fixed incomes are already making difficult decisions on whether to fill their oil tanks to heat their homes or buy food.

Connecticut Republican challenger for U.S. Congress Jayme Stevenson issued a statement condemning Biden’s last ditch election year gimmick.

“Under Biden’s watch, America has lost our energy independence and depleted our emergency reserves. This administration has no comprehensive energy plan nor the ability to restock diminishing reserves at a reasonable price. The U.S. is now reliant on our global foes to provide the essential resources we need to fuel our homes, cars and businesses. There is no plan to address the constraints of our existing electrical grid as U.S. citizens are forced to seek alternative energy sources. Our policy cannot be one that harms hard-working Americans and our allies in Western Europe while we pursue clean energy goals.

Energy independence is a matter of national security. Biden and Himes are playing a dangerous game with our adversaries who, in the wake of Biden’s war on the American fossil fuel industry, control global energy supply. After 14 years, Jim Himes and his party’s strategy of win-at-all-costs is deeply troubling to voters. The need for real leadership and practical solutions has never been greater.”
