AFL-CIO State Federations, Central Labor Councils, and Area Labor Federations comprise over 58 National and International Unions representing more than 12.5 million Union Members. The Arizona AFL-CIO is one of a handful of states that operates under a system called the New Alliance in which we have two Area Labor Federations; the Pima Area Labor Federation located in the city of Tucson but covers most of Southern Arizona and the Maricopa Area Labor Federation located in Phoenix, covering the greater Maricopa county area. For northern Arizona, there is the Nal-Nishii Federation of Labor located on the Navajo Nation encompasses parts of northern Arizona and northern New Mexico.
The structure of the State Federation is the Secretary-Treasurer, President, Executive Vice President, Executive Director, Executive Committee and General Board. The two Area Labor Federations and the Nal-Nishii comprise a Chair-person, Vice Chair, General Board and Delegates.
The unions that make up the construction of the AFL-CIO are really a diverse coalition of union members from all walks of life, representing working families all across the U.S. and other countries as well. Our allied groups, constituency groups and community allies play an important role in the continued fight for dignity and respect in the workplace, good-paying union jobs with secure retirement plans and for fairness and justice for all workers!
