#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | October 21, 2022 Happy Friday SC-01! Good afternoon and happy Friday! It’s finally starting to feel like Fall in the Lowcountry, and as the weather cools off, we’ve been heating things up with tons of fun chances to meet and connect with you across the district. On Monday, we joined Governor McMaster at the SC State of the Ports Address. This was Barbara Melvin's first address as CEO of SC Ports, and it was a pleasure to learn about the incredible work our ports are doing. Last year was a record-setting year for our ports with over a $63 Billion impact on our economy. Barbara Melvin is a true trailblazer as the first woman CEO of a top 10 port in the United States, and we are proud to have her leading us into the future. On Tuesday morning, we visited with many of you down at Freshfields on Kiawah Island for Coffee With Your Congresswoman. It’s always a pleasure to meet you and learn about the issues that mean the most to you. On Tuesday evening, we joined the American Fly Fishing Trade Association for their annual summit and discussed how important fishing is to our Lowcountry economy and lifestyle. On Wednesday morning, we joined the American Pilots Association’s Annual meeting in Charleston. These hard-working men and women have what’s often called the hardest job on the water. Our Harbor Pilots handle thousands of ship movements a year and are an integral part of the supply chain in our city and country. Fun Fact: Over half of Charleston’s Harbor Pilots attended The Citadel. Go Bulldogs! On Thursday morning, we joined the American Conservation Coalition and Mt. Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie for a trip out to Crab Bank. We were also joined by representatives from SCDNR and Audubon SC. They provided an update on the 1 year anniversary of the Crab Bank restoration and we had a chance to take a closer look at the incredible wildlife who have made this sanctuary their home. Thursday evening we had a chance to meet many of you at Cocktails with Your Congresswoman in Mt. Pleasant. Thanks to everyone who joined us and shared their thoughts with us.
