Supporting Law Enforcement

Friend,

With the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack trial in the news, it is yet another important reminder of the need for elected officials to focus on fighting crime. I'm committed to creating a community that's safe. We need to secure the border, stop fentanyl from entering our community, and give local law enforcement officers the resources and tools they need.

I'm proud to stand with the men and women in law enforcement. Each day, they wake up and answer the call to serve and keep our communities safe. I thanked Walworth County Deputy Blanchard, who was injured in the line of duty in an effort to protect our community, for his service and sacrifice, and honored him with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community.

Neighborhoods across the country have seen a frightening increase in crime. In Milwaukee and across Southeast Wisconsin, there has been a dramatic increase in shootings right in our backyards. To stop violent crime, we need to support law enforcement and keep criminals off our streets. We should be funding the police, working to recruit more officers, and holding our local prosecutors and district attorneys accountable for misguided policies.

Recently, legislation I cosponsored, the Invest to Protect Act, passed the House to give local police departments critical funding for resources and recruitment efforts. This is an important step in providing law enforcement with the resources they need from the federal government. We also must secure the border in order keep dangerous substances, like fentanyl, out of each community across the United States.

Keeping Fentanyl Off Our Streets

Fentanyl overdose deaths are on pace to increase this year. I hosted roundtables in Rock, Racine, and Kenosha Counties to address the increase in fentanyl coming into our communities. Too often, young adults are falling victim to these dangerous substances. Everyone in our community must be aware of fentanyl’s presence in other drugs.

At the federal level, I'm working to give local law enforcement officials the resources they need to keep these dangerous substances off our streets. The second step, is securing the border. These dangerous drugs are being smuggled across the southern border by cartels. In order to end the cartel's dangerous operations, which include human and drug trafficking, we need to secure the border.

I'll continue working to create a nation that is safe. There are key steps we can take at the federal level to give our U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers the resources they need to secure the border as well as our local police departments.

As always, if you would like to share an opinion with me, please don't hesitate to reach out to my office.
